Just wanted to make people more aware of Gardiennage short cuts I saw over the last 4 years in Greece.

Nonthly engine checks completed after 3 months or more by running the engine for the requisite hours to meet the contract in one burst ie after month 3 or just before the owner is coming out they run the engine for 3 hrs so that the Engine Hr Meter reads corrctly.

Sails removed well after the owner has left, laid out on concrete and power washed with soap powder regardless of whether Dacron or Laminate.

No hosing down or cleaning until the day before the owner arrives.

Often the companies do not have many staff on during periods of inclement weather and leave it for the marina staffs who are often trying to deal with many issues and are not obligated to look after individual yachts.

I would recommend if you are employing a gardiennage company that you speak with any of the marina live aboards for a recommendations, they see from day to day what goes on. I am not going to name amrinas but the liveaboards know who the good companies are.

Seconded. He looked after my boat after my experiences similar to the OP. However, there is a limit to what one person (plus his delightful wife) can take on, so you have to persuade him!
