I have always found the chap that runs the Falmouth Water Taxi very helpful, and I have been impressed with how he has tried to grow his small business in tough times.

A while ago he said he was thinking of offering some new services and I promised I would put details on YBW for him, so here goes (and I hope you don't mind, but I think it is important to support such businesses that are making an effort).

For 2013 they are launching two new services. The first is a shore to boat return season ticket, and the second is a harbour boat watch scheme where, in addition to keeping an eye on things, they will bail, keep your boat clean, and anything else you want.

He was talking about some attractive pricing from £5 per wk, and is also offerring a combined package. His number is 07522 4469.

Like I wrote, I have no connection other than a happy customer of his taxi and as someone that likes to help keen small businesses get ahead.

I'll second that

I sailed from Chichester to Falmouth before heading off to the Algarve in 2011 and I too used the same taxi service while I was there as I had to delay departure for a month due to bad weather. Very helpful, very friendly and nothing too much trouble. I wish him every success in his endeavors. Good luck and thanks

The boatmen/women running the taxis were, the one's I knew anyway, ex RCYC boatmen, so they have an inkling of what small boats need and had a good attitude.

At £5.00 per week, for, say, a 26 week season, would be £130.00.

Membership of RCYC, with boatman and limited resources and hours included last year, was £230.00. Makes me reconsider my membership, as all we use the club for is the launch.

Sorry to sound a discordant note but I moored on the buoys (because the visitor's marina has introduced a multihull surcharge). We thought we'd treat ourselves to a taxi so got on the VHF. After calling for half an hour we gave up and used the dinghy. The lady in the marina office thought he might have been at St Mawes but our radio should have reached 3 miles line of sight.

Contact?

Did you try his mobile? I am sure that, if you had been able to make contact, he would not have let you down and too would be an advocate. A small business needs to start somewhere which is why he gets my support despite the fact that I am unlikely to require his services again. I hope you have better luck next time.

I have happy memories of Falmouth; the Pasties, helpfulness at Pendennis Marina, the Harbour staff (despite charging me to anchor) Helford River, Truro and the Taxi service...
