Is anyone having any galvanising done? I need a short piece of steel channel galvanised. (One of the keel supports is very rusty) I’m up against the high minimum charge. I don’t mind to contribute to the cost if anybody is having some chain galvanised.
I’ve looked into using stainless channel as an alternative but it’s around 10 times the price of the mild steel.
Its been suggested that I use Hammerite paint on the steel, but I’m not convinced that it will last very long in the bilge.
Anyone got any other ideas?

Find a local agricultural engineering place that makes metal gates, rails or pig troughs, etc. They often have loads going off to the galvanisers.

The one round here makes slurry pumping kit and has two lorries a week go off with stuff to be galvanised. He lets me add things for 90p per kilo.

Or a trailer manufacturer - local one here just added my anchor to their latest batch for galvanising.

You are a bit far away, but just up the road in Australian terms :) , London - Falkirk?? But try Geoff at Knox Anchor - he will be sympathetic - but the delivery costs may negate any advantage he offers.
