I never had one in my boat, neither know if I need one (how do I tell?). Is it necessary?

PS: I keep the boat in a marina and always connected to shore power when not using it. Prop zinc lasts around one year (if this information is necessary).

Thanks

If your prop anode lasts a year you do not seem to have a problem that requires a GI

You only need to consider fitting a GI if there is a electrical circuit all the way from the anode to the shorepower earth
That means any flexible coupling is bridged, and the shorepower earth is bonded to the internal earth / engine block / DCnegative

I have a GI but that was because one year on a previous boat I suffered bad corrosion (Enough to damage the shaft) could never prove it but thought problem was a neighbours boat with an electrical issue. After fitting the GI everything fine, may have been a coincidence though.

Did fit one on my new boat as not too expensive and will do no harm.
