On this Forum when members quote figures in Gallons are they referring to

a) UK gallons - 1 gal = 4.55 ltr

OR

b) US gallons - 1 gal = 3.78 ltr

Having had the metric system with decimals since 1907 the Danes have been struggling with coversions when trading with UK/US for more than 100 years.

Seems as if still more countries adapt the metric. :biggrin-new:

I think it would depend on how the machinery being used to give the number is calibrated.. For example my Dad has a Jeep and the MPG numbers it gives are based on US gallons vs my car which is calculated using UK gallons.. Makes it a little like comparing apples to oranges.. :)

In my case its always Imperial gallons. The US gallon is an undersized puny little thing that shouldn't be trusted. This is a valid question though as US websites like boattest.com which many UK boaters like me view, do quote fuel consumption in nautical miles per gallon without stating whether it is Imperial or US gallons they are using

how many people buy a boat because of imp gallons per hour ,i would say less than ten percent
I would say quite a lot of people. Most of us buy planing boats to do fast cruising rather than semi displacement boats because planing boats are more efficient at speed so it would be true to say that most buyers are at least aware of fuel consumption. Then there is the issue of range which is a very important factor in buying a boat for many people and fuel consumption partially affects that
