I have bought a Galion 28, Ian Hannay design. She was built by Deacons boat yard in 1971 I believe.
Does anyone have any knowledge of these yacht? I can't find anything much on the Internet and shes the only one i've seen. She is called Goldeneye and may have been raced in the JOG series. I would love to know more about her if anyone can help.

Thanks Jim

I've never heard of a Galion 28, is she related to the 22, and if so is there perhaps a G22 owners' association or an owner who has some info ?

Also never hear of a 28. I used to own a Galion 22 called Sha'awal. They were raced in the JOG in the 70's an done won the Round the Island Race (Isle of White one) if I recall correctly.

There is an owners association and website - can't find the details just now but use your favourite search engine it will come up.

Hi seajet, thanks for your reply. Yes, she is the big sister to the Galion 22 but was never as popular. I'm not sure if she was the only one built. I did look for the G22 owners club but couldn't find it on the net, I will do another search.

I'm surprised there weren't more built. She's very roomy with a huge cockpit and sails well.

Thanks Temptress, Rob. I did email Randy at sailboat data, the only information he had was that listed. He's never seen one either.

I'm wondering if or how I could contact Ian Haney the original designer. I believe he was an airline pilot, yacht designer and an Olympic class sailor. Quit a guy by the sound of it.

The 22's have a really strong following, I think they are a great boat and reasonable priced. I have registered on the owners association just waiting to be confirmed. Hopefully they may have some information.

I bought a Galion 22 from Ian Hannay in 1967. She was a fine boat with a blue hull & named Galion Bleu. The competitor was the Hurley 22 which did not offer the same standing headroom as the Galion. She was launched in Lymington and I sailed her round to Portmadog alone which was my first cruise as skipper. Many happy memories.

Sailed on a Galion 22 and a Hurley 22 on the Isle of Man as a nipper - the Galion was soooo much nicer inside. We had the Hurley and spent a 'holiday' on it in Port St Mary for 2 weeks. It was overcrowded, damp and smelly. To this day my parents talk about the many happy summers we all spent aboard - I gently remind them that dad owned it for 18 months and that summer mum stayed at home and came to visit. Still the Hurley was a great sailing boat, a good turn of speed for the era - it was in the day when 22 foot was a good sized yacht - they're called micro cruisers now.
