Gaelforce are now offering a lowrance 5150 plotter with FREE Europe West Nautic Map covering UK & Ireland
NOW ONLY £269.95.
This seems good value but how good is it and are Nautic charts any good?

Also go under the name of Eagle .. Mine was ok .. Depends how old the info is on the card .. I would certainly ask the question ..

I have a 5150C plotter with a wide area chart card. Bought them as a package about 22 months ago. I have found the detail on the card very good. The clarity of the display on the unit itself is also very good.

Morgana also bought one at about the same time as me and he too was very happy with it.

Hope this helps!

Nauticpath charts are fine unless you are a shallow water sailor. The ditch crawler detail is missing.

Just how shallow? Less than 10m? 5m?

I sailed from Glasson Dock to Malta using the Lowrance as my main plotter.

If I was doing it again, I would buy one of the following:

Lowrance 5150 + Navionics chart cartridge

or

Standard Horizon 300 + C-Map chart cartridge

The nauticpath charts are OK, but C-Map and Navionics have more detail and are well worth the money.

I have Nauic Path chart of N europe (Scndinavia and the Baltic.
I have found it good and has every buoy. As far as I have been able to chack it ia accurate. It omits bridge and power cable hieghts also marina pontoon details.
It is not particularly up to date. The Navionics Baltic Chart does have bridge and cable hieghts plus marina detail. I have found one error in buoy positioning on the Navioncs chart. I dont think the Navioics chart is sufficiently better to justify the extra cost.
When thinking about places where the bottom moves about I would hope the Navionics etc. would be much moreup to date.
The rocks in Sweden and Finland mostly stay put

My h/h is aboard right now but from memory it lacks detail from 3m, then you are shown a LW contour and a HW contour. Drying heights of rocks are shown as well as useful shore features.

As I say, it is a perfectly fine budget chart if you can live without the shallow details.
