This is typical of custmoer service in the UK. West Marine delivered to my door in Northumberland from the U.S in an amazing 3 days (i.e arrived lunchtime on the 3rd day!). So there is absolutely no excuse for the service we get internaly here. I always use this fact to beat them over the head with when ordering on the phone when they (UK firms) tell me to allow 14 days or (often more) whatever for delivery.
No excuse. Just crap attitude to the customer.
I received half of my order (3 charts) after about 3 weeks. I never received the other half and gave up waiting. I suspect they don't carry stock just act as a go between. I will not be using Gael Force Marine again even though for some items they are the cheapest.
Further to previous post:
I ordered from www.sailnet.com (USA) last week. Hassle free. One item is despatched the other back ordered. I can view the status of my order online and the parcel tracking (UPS) shows me exactly where the package is together with an expected delivery date? The increased cost of developing this link on the web site is offset by fewer calls to customer services enquiring about the status of their order.
The cost of the 2 items there was $320 (£220) v £450 here. Even with VAT and shipping it made for a substantial saving.
Likewise. PM from Financial Director. Good to see him take the initiative. We all make mistakes, the measure is in how well or how fast we put them right.
have caled them this smorning and was told it would be here tomorowafter three weeks something for my inconvenionce wouldnt go amis what do you think .i will let you know how i get on
To be fair - I ordered rope, chain and shackles recently and had no problem. One of the shackles was mal-forged and was replaced without question.
It is possible that with some items the pressure of coping with many orders following the demise of other outlets, does perhaps cause a bit of a back-log.
There prices on certain items are very good. 80p/metre for 16mm 3 strand nylon is a lot better than the £2.75/m I was quoted by a local chandlery.
