Does anyone know of a site that sells cheap led bulbs, all the ones on Ebay & Amazon are around about £3/4 each.I know some say the cheap ones are dangerous ect but I have it on good authority this not true

??? In relation to all of them???!! :D Seriously, I agree with you: I doubt there are any dangerous ones on the market these days

Anyway, the problem with cheap ones is they feel awful if used for internal cabin lighting. They blast out one wavelength of red, one of green and one of blue, to make white. Daylight, in contrast, consists of the entire spectrum, not just three specific wavelengths.

An LED with a high CRI will emit most of the spectrum instead of just 3 peaks of RGB, and will in consequence feel much nicer. But high CRI LEDs are not cheap

As a separate matter, good (= expensive) LEDs make more lumens per watt than cheap ones, and bearing in mind the usual reason for wanting LEDs on boats is to reduce battery drain at anchor this ought to be very relevant. The fact you're looking for "3 Watt" is a bit worrying: you should be looking for 300 lumens or whatever light output you want. Wattage works as a yardstick for incandescent bulbs but not LEDs

Obviously you should buy whatever you want; I'm merely saying that there is a reason the cheap ones are cheap, and it's that they're cheap. LEDs of the same lumens output and the same colour temperature are most definitely not all alike and to be compared on price only

Happy shopping! :)

I tried a number of different led bulbs from ebay, most were **** unfortunately.

In the end the best I found were from

http://www.bedazzled.uk.com/

I have no connection to them, of the bulbs I tried theirs were by far the brightest and had the nicest colour.
But obviously this is the best of a very limited sample, once I found a bulb I was happy with I stopped looking.
