I’m buying a Sabre 27 bilge keel that’s had an old poly repair fail at the foot of the keel. I‘ve had to grind well back on it to get to sound material, and I’m planning to build it up with chopped glass and epoxy, shape it and then glass it with roving. Since it is the foot of a bilge keel, I want it strong both in terms of compression when I mud moor, and shear in case I bump.
On the drive back from the yard, I started thinking of using some pieces of g10 (epoxy glass sheets) in the buildup. Maybe just some key bits in the fill, maybe build up a sort of a laminated shoe and then bed it and glass it over.
Anyone with any experience who might share an opinion? Folly? Genius? En/dis-couragement?
Thanks!
