Irish boating associations took a leaf out of the french manual on protesting and joined forces yesterday to organise a week long blockade of irish ports and ferry terminals. Havoc could be caused to easter ferry schedules. Apparently there are some emergency meetings today between ISA, IWAI, ICC and officials of the Depts of Marine, Finance and Revenue officials in an effort to arrange a stand down of the blockade while talks proceed.

The dublin port tunnel has been closed as there are 100s of trucks stuck in a tail back right through the tunnel due to the shutdown of dublin port. In the waterford estuary the ISA and IWAI protestors have been joined by fishing interests angry at the recent ban of Salmon drift netting. The only fishing ports unaffected are Castletownbere, Dunmore East and Killybegs. The situtation in cork is intersting as that is where the naval base is but the ships are at sea. Fishing bodies are meeting today to decide weither to join the protest and vent their anger at recent EU quota reductions. Strange to see yotties and mobo's join forces!

Trust the Irish to pull a stunt like that on the 1st day of April...and just when everyone is trying to get home for Passover.

Disgusted of Tel Aviv..

If the Irish sailing associations had contacted us in Wales in the spirit of solidarity we could have joined in and blockaded the entire width of the St Georges Channel. We will really miss the salmon nets when we visit your shores,a sad day in history. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
