Tried my Furuno Navnet colour combined plotter/radar yesterday for the first time since buying boat. Usually use the big garmin plotter next to it instead and use the GPS plotter part of the navnet display as an overview only.

After switching it on and selecting radar display only it counts down from about 2.00mins then says standy on screen and nothing happens for around 15minutes

Then suddenly whirly thing on the radar arch spins and radar works for 2minutes then stops for another 15/20 mins

Anyone know what could be causing this, I just wondered if it was something simple that I could do myself or do I leave it to the experts

In pure radar mode (ie choose radar display from the choices pesented) from S/B to transmit it will count down as you indicate then will sweep until you switch it off .

Go to the radar menu when in this mode and check that guard is not selected.

You can set the radar to wake up at determined intervals - take a look and go back to sleep if no target in the area you have pre-selected. I use this mode when at anchor in case someone gets too close or I move.........Never tested if I would hear the alarm however but it makes me feel very darned good :-)

Thanks both, pressed lots of buttons in the hope one might make it work. Must have pressed "guard" as well, I remember that screen came up, will bring the manual down to the boat with me next time

Ah! the manual. i remember when I had my gear installed I read the 'book' so I could operate the equipment when I returned the following w/e.

What a mistake - you need both to get the best out of it.

i have the same problem now too as because you are not using the stuff day in day out; once you need something uncustomary you are knackered without the manual - as nothing is intuitive. But, that said, I really like the Furuno as its fab once you can use it properly.

Good luck

yep "The Manual" just looking at it now ...........................241 pages.

Guard / Watchman section 2.22.1 I am sure its something like this that I must have activated accidentally.

I agree Mike, I have been putting labels on boat to remind myself when I did anodes, when I changed oil, coolant, trim tabs = down is actually up etc.. otherwise I forget. Sure boat is heavier just from all these Dymo stickies /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
