Furuno NavNet 3D

I saw it at Excel and had it demoed to me by our local dealer.

It was very impressive.

Apparently they have take a great leap forward compared with the competition.

I dont know if I would use a lot of the displays, I think I would use the normal plan display.

The ability to look at an aeriel photo for an unknown port would be good though.

Yes its very clever.

Of example the scanner sends a digital signal to the display having done all the processing 'internally' the display can then use the info as if two scanners were rotating. So you can have a split display on say 3 miles and another on 12 miles.

The redraw as you proceed is seemless.

The heading and speed info is nicely set up too now with the heading more like a gyro repeater to look at which I think shows rate of turn better etc.

Nice piece of kit.

Unsure if it will take C Map charts and work with PC Plotter as my current Nav Net max does.

Navnet 3 D will not use C-map charts but will instead work with either raster charts from mapmedia (scans of UKHO charts) which have a clever de-clutter function and look the biz, or vector charts based on navionics database but modified to run in TimeZero 3d format, also from Mapmedia and available from Furuno/dealers.
A new timezero maxsea software will launch at the same time so you can integrate the pc plotter with weather routing and all the bells and whistles.
Charts will be stored on the hard drive and all you will need is an unlock code so no SD cards
