Has anyone successfully supplied a GPS signal from a Furuno GP33 to an Icom M506?
I have the correct NMEA output cable from the GP33.
But connecting by colour coding to the NMEA0183 input on the Icom M506 does not produce the time or posn!
So the M506 will not display AIS range and bearing to already identified targets.
Someone must have done it!

For some inexplicable reason, the Icom M506 has had lots of issues with networking. I believe that, by default, it expects GPS data via NMEA2000. If you're feeding GPS data in via NMEA0183, I think you might have to disable the NMEA2000 input by going into the NMEA2000 Settings menu on the M506, and then look at GPS, and then select "Not used". Hopefully this might persuade the radio to look for GPS data on the NMEA0183 connection.

If that doesn't work, get in touch with Icom!

I seem to remember that the GP33 can put out NMEA2000, so if that is what the ICOM is expecting perhaps better use this?

If the boat has an existing N2K network it will cost £40-£50 for a cable and T connector to do this. If there is no N2K network it would cost a lot more. A 0183 connection would cost nothing.
