Has anyone any experience connecting up a Furuno GP32 to a Raymarine ST1000 tiller pilot?

I've connected up the cabling as per doc's I have found on the internet, changed my NMEA channel to be AP compatible and get absolutely nothing on the ST1000 apart from the usual info! Have I missed a step or something here?

I'm also trying to connect a Raymarine fluxgate compass to my Raymarine SL72 radar and again I get nada. Via a multimeter can see I'm getting voltage back. Understand both yellow and green cables provide output from the fluxgate (1 cosine the other sine info), but how do I now connect this to my radar?

Any assistance well and truly appreciated. trying to get the boat set up to be as easy as possible before I single hand it down to Falmouth.

First off, is the ST1000 an ST1000 or an ST1000+ ? It will make a difference.

The ST1000 can only read Seatalk, and the ST1000+ will read Seatalk and NMEA. If your ST is not the + model, you would need an Interface Unit to convert the NMEA to Seatalk. This is the arrangement that I have to drive my ST3000 from a GPS Plotter.

As for the fluxgate compass, does it output NMEA or Seatalk.

It's an ST1000+ so I'm guessing it can talk NMEA?

Could it be the type of wiring I've used? Cat 5. Good enough for computers!?!?

Nothing

Get the St1000 message and then the usual C000 etc

Press Auto and then +- 10 together but nothing after that

Not knowing the + model, is there a "switch" to enable it to receive either NMEA or Seatalk?

I've got instruments talking to each-other, but had to set certain switches to enable them to talk and/or receive.

My Navman plotter would not send NMEA to my Furuno radar, but my elderly AP-Philip Mk6 would. It must be the slight difference in age/language of the two senders. The radar was made early-GPS and was able to receive NMEA from a Loran.

I know it's counter-intuitive, but did you try setting the GP32 NMEA sentence selection to REM instead of AP? It may be that the ST1000+ uses sentence RMB rather than APB for tracking. RMB is only output by the GP32 in REM mode whereas it outputs APB only in AP mode.

Yes set up a waypoint and also put in XTE of 0.3.

I have also tried both REM and the AP mode. Wondering even though I've got voltage at the far end maybe it's not quite enough! I've used Cat 5 cabling, obviously fine for computers but not so sure about Auto Pilots!

I don't think the cable spec is your problem. Cat 5 should be fine. Presume you're using one pair and leaving the others unused. Are you sure you've connected to the same pair at both ends? (don't mean to be insulting but I'm slightly colour blind and have been known to do that sort of thing myself)

BTW have you tried both available outputs from the Furuno?

/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Hi Danny

Yes I'm sure I didn't use the wrong pair, I did check (several times).

Have spoken to Raymarine and they suggested I use the seatalk out of the back of my radar. So I guess I'll pay the £25 for the lead and try that.

Hi Steve. Annoying though - it should work! Presumably the polarity is correct? Pin 2 from the GP32 connected to Pin 5 on the ST1000+ and either pin 3 (data 2) or pin 1 (data 1) on the GP32 connected to pin 6 on the ST1000+.

[ QUOTE ]
Do you know what colour cable they're going to on the ST1000?

[/ QUOTE ]Steve,
GP32 common/pin 2 (blue) to GREEN on the ST1000+.
GP32 data1/pin 1 (white) or data2/pin 3 (yellow) to WHITE on the ST1000+.
