A cry for help please. A few weeks ago the Furuno 1623 radar on my boat failed to power up, turned out to be a blown fuse. A couple of weeks earlier the set had run okay.
Does anyone have any tips for troubleshooting the problem?
The manual says 2 things:
1. Use the proper fuse. - Does anyone know what constitutes a 'proper' fuse, other than being rated for 5 amps and the right dimensions for the fuse holder and where to buy them if they are a bit special?
2. Not to replace the fuse without first finding the fault. - Searching Google there are hints that the scanner might be the issue. Would it be okay to disconnect the scanner cable, replace the fuse and power up the display to check?
Many thanks,
David Wood

I have the same radar and no problems so far .....
Fuses just sometimes blow, especially the older ones. Personally I would have a quick check of the wiring where I can, and put a new fuse in of the correct rating. If it goes again there is a problem that requires to be sorted.

In the 1623 manual, under "packing list" the fuse is shown as 30mm x 6mm.
The blowing fuse could be bad news. Mine developed this habit every time it was switched on. It seemed to be a fault in the scanner but the only thing that the local agent could be certain of was that a repair was going to be very expensive so I sold the set on ebay for spares or repair.
Hope you have better luck.
