I leave you to guess the gender of the skipper of GM IV at the time of the yot-reef encounter /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The Times has more details of this story, the Anvil Point story and two sad stories about mariners in Sweden and Norway.

In all seriousness I do'nt think women have sufficient spacial awareness to be in charge of boats in pilotage situations cos they can only think in 2 dimensions rather than 3.

I know what you mean, but I find that I have trouble with pilotage once the boat has a significant velocity in all three dimensions as well.

Had a sex change Dave? Personally I've always thought depth an important consideration whilst piloting.

From the YBW account " The vessel sustained damage to her starboard side, amidships. The 32-year-old woman skipper, a male first mate, 24, and female helper, 48, called for help, and were evacuated, along with the three teenage crew. "
So what was the female helper doing? helping them to go aground?

The skipper skips, the mate, erm, mates and the helper calls for help.

Good job they had her on board really.

Makes sense, I guess thats why Day Mellon's boat is a cat, no keel to worry about!
