We are having new rigging fitted and have just had the bad news that the lower foil on the furling gear is fractured, apparently beyond repair, we're going to see it this morning. There are apparently no spares available.

Firstly does anyone have an old twin grove furlex b lower foil they would sell me?

If it can't be fixed or replaced them we're looking at full replacement, the Plastimo 811s seems a perfectly good system at reasonable price, what are these like to fit as a diy job and what are they like to use ( the yard doing the rigging has refused to fit one as they say they've experienced problems with them).

Thanks.

Fitted one to a Hunter 27 OOD eight or nine years ago-still going strong, no problems at all once a small twist shackle was fitted as a furling line guide-as per PBO Practical owners tips!

Biggest problem was getting the money out of one particular syndicate member.....................................................

Thanks to all those who have replied or PM'd me.

We had a good look at it this morning and discussed it in detail with the riggers. Even if we can get a foil it seems that its possible that the lower assembly will break when dismantled, and the system is over 20 years old. In view of this we've decided to go for a new Z Spars system, somewhat more than the Plastimo but apparently much better quality.

Have you checked out Sailspar continuous line system? Very cheap, but lifetime guarantee. I bought a new replacement when I replaced Gladys mast, and a mate was having a Harken on his 28'. Sailspar was 2/3 the cost.

After pushing a bit our riggers managed to find an old furlex B in their yard, they then managed to dismantle the lower assembly without problem, so we now have an overhauled and fully serviceable Furlex B ready for when the mast goes back up on Friday. Thanks to all for your ideas.
