My current sail has a 5mm mono filament luff I was thinking of changing to a sail with a 5mm rope luff. Is this likely to fit or would there be any other problems.

Why were you thinking of changing it ?
Mono won't pull thru that well as it's not that strong ,infact can stretch a lot .
.Very difficult to swap unless you change the tape also, and have to bear thickness of that in mind as well.

Sorry I should have worded it better. I was talking about changing the whole sail not just the luff rope. I was thinking of buying a sail which has a 5mm rope luff.

The safest way of checking this is to obtain a short length of the luff-tape that the sailmaker is proposing. A sample that is about a foot long would be enough. Feed it into the luff groove of your furler and then try to tug it out (away from the groove at right angles to it). Tug as hard as you can. If it is suitable for the purpose it will remain in the groove. Keep this sample because it will be useful later for cleaning the inside of the groove and also for applying silicon lubricant when sliding the sail up or down becomes a chore due to accumulated dirt.
