I think you need to move the inner sleeve away from the join to allow it to twist and release the joining plate (which the two heads are part of). Picture may help explain the parts. I can imagine any corrosion will not help.

Seems the bend is not too bad. With a little gentle persuasion it's straightening up OK.
Is this straightening of the foils likely to result in a usable furler?

Probably. Remember aluminium doesn't like being bent (permanent distortion) repeatedly. If it looks ok and the track is ok then move on.
