Talking to a Seffrican barman here the other night . . .

He said they are going to close Funchal marina and build a big aquarium like the one in Lisbon. All the boats will be told to bu**er off to the three new marinas in Madeira.

I asked the guy in the chandlers here at Calheta about it. He said they are going to complely refurbish the marina, and chuck out all the local boats that never go sailing, leaving plenty of berths with shiny new facilities for visiting yachts.

So - one way or the other, it looks as though there are major changes coming at this traditional ocean crossroads.

We do seem to have taken root here . . . while we were in Graciosa we saw plenty of lovely weather for the trip from Madeira to Santa Maria, but since arriving here things have been a bit unsettled - I think we are spoilt. Being able to choose your departure means you are always looking for better weather round the corner.

We were going today, but someone is coming to look at our radio problems tomorrow and I guess we will get away from here later tomorrow or Tuesday now, hopefully arriving in Santa Maria on Saturday or Sunday. It looks like a pretty calm spell once the next low has gone past.

The plan is a few days in Santa Maria then San Miguel, maybe staying to see the first AZAB boats arrive, then West if the weather lets us to Terceira and Horta.

So hopefully we will meet up for that drink . . . do you have email on board?

Safe passage,

- Nick

Hi Terry

Yes but having a much slower boat (get your excuse in first) was planing on 7.30 to 8 start which will probably translate to 9.00. Hope to see you Wednesday morning. Gavins had all my spare beer tokens so it will be on the water and not in the chandlery. Good luck.

Pete
