Just thought I'd post the results of my bank holiday weekend away:
Going down the thames towards the medway, hit a log just before the thames barrier, bit of vibration but not much I could do in the control zone. Got the other side and the load dropped on the engine and I could make 1kt on full revs. I had to decide to anchor just past woolwich, get the sails up and try to sail back through the barrier.
I called VTS who were amazingly helpful, got towed to royal arsenal pier. After that the prop seemed to be cleared and the harbour master escorted me back though the barrier in case something went wrong again. Got back into south dock on the high tide at 2am.

Did I wimp out by not trying to sail though the barrier and pick up a pier (not that they are fendered with small yachts in mind). Or would you have done the same?

London VTS were amazingly helpful, and I would like to publicly acknowledge their assistance here.

Hope your weekends go better than mine!

I had to call on the assistance of the Thames VTS people a couple of years back - bad fuel problem just inwards from the QE bridge. Very helpful bunch.
Nice to know there are still some folks with a professional attitude out there.
