I'd just like to pass on some information on a product I found. I was having trouble hoisting my full batten main and found it necessary to go forward to the mast to heave on the halyard when there was anything like a wind. So I looked for some sort of luff traveller system to replace the sail slides but did not want to attach a rail system to the mast.
Eventually I found a product called "Luffshuttle" made here in Italy by Essemarine, which I consider to be very good. I can now raise the mainsail with ease and lowering is a dream! If the lazy bag would zip itself, then I wouldn't have to go foraward at all!! These cars come with a kit of parts from which you select the parts for your mast profile; they cost around €50 each but I reckon they are well worth it, particularly if sailing single handed or light crewed.
Details can be found on their website:

and they do speak English.
I have no connection with this company : just a satisfied customer.
My mast is a Sparcraft Ocean and the full batten system is the Sailman from Bainbridge.
