Having to replace my old fuel tank as it is falling to bits. Having searched on the net I cannot find a decent plastic fuel tank with baffles. Deosn't have to be big but dont want to go down the custom built road. Anybody tried anything similar before?

Why not replace with Stainless it may cost you less. How big is it. Ask you insurance company if it's OK to fit plastic.

I had 2 x 390 ltr tanks made in stainless for £500 delivered to the door.
If you need info PM me and I will dig out the address.

Plastimo have a range from 33 ltrs to 91 ltrs. For an idea on price, they cost £59.16 and £109.31 respectively.

Vetus also do a wide range of sizes.

If you look back through t he posts you will find a lot of references to Tek Tanks. They supply both standard sizes and custom builds (both containing baffles). I had a custom tank made for me from a mdf mockup (to ensure that it would fit. The final result was perfect and was correct to such a fine tolerance that it was impossible to measure, the new tank was just as tight to get in the space as the mock up had been. What was a bonus with the custom tank it is semi-transparent such that it is possible to see the level of fuel inside the tank - who needs a guage?

I have no connection with the company - just a very happy man with a new tank! - well a year or so old now but whos counting! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Thanks All

I wanted to fit a custom Tek tank, but beuuase we moor in a British waterways marina (Limehouse) we have to comply with the boat safety scheme, and Teks custom tanks are not CE marked so fail the the schemee. In the end went for Vetus., which worked well.,

The only problem I had was the bung where the tank was injection molded was loose.

Fitted the tank, pur in some diesel, which dribbled out the bottom -- should have heard me swear. Drained the tank removed it and and tightened up the screw in plug and refilled (smeared some sikaflex around it too just in case and has been fine since.

Vetus were apologetic etc and let me have a small day tank for my heater gratis,

Moral is to check the the bungs I guess!

Re: Thanks All

Go for either the Plastimo, Vetus or Tek Tanks standard ones off the shelf - they should be CE marked(ask them just to be on the safe side). Looking at the Tek & Plastimo markings they look as though they come out of the same Italian factory but different colour. Plastimo are red and Tek are white.
I paid just under £90 for a Plastimo 20gall tank and mechanical fuel gauge.
A stainless tank was MUCH more expensive as it was custom made. As said I don't think the custom made ones would be CE marked - but just a thought - would custom made Stainless Tanks also have to be CE marked??

Re: Thanks All

The BSS allows for custom metal tanls of appropriate materials, but they may have to pass a visual inspection.

I went for the Vetus in part for price, in part for capacity and in part for teh shape.
I got a 215 litre long tank.

Because they are translucent, if the fuel guage packs up a quick look through the engine room hatch gives you an idea of fuel level.
