I just booked three flights to Germany for an exhibition in May. for some technical reason (me?) i could not book all flights at the same time and did 3 seperate transactions.
the confirmation e-mails arrived as follows
14.50 invoice No ...093
14.56 invoice No ...134
15.00 invoice No ...166
each flight has £12 fuel surcharge
so in 6 minutes the airline got £492
and in the next 4 minutes £384
£87 per minute in surcharges!
who gets these surcharges? airline or Bliar's lot?

and we are worrying about losing subsidy on red diesel

As I understand it the surcharge is made up of 2 items, firstly an additional amount to reflect increased security and insurance costs following 9/11 and secondly, a fuel surcharge to reflect increased fuel costs over the last few months. Personally, I think it is completely disengenious and bordering on being a con. These are just normal business costs which should be calculated in the ticket price not tacked on at the end of the transaction just as you're about to commit to the purchase
