I cleaned out glass bowls on the pre fuel (water seperators) on my V**v* KAD 44's on Friday as the glass bowls had a sediment in there which I could not remove by draining off with the little brass tap thingies. This meant udoing the four ¼ AF bolts that hold the bowls in place. I changed the filter elemnts at the top at the same time and now all is clean and lovely but I am concerned that I may have fuel bug. How does it manifest itself. The sludge I had looked green through the bowl but in fact was black. As I say its perfectly clear now and I think it may just have been picked up by running short of fuel back from France (had about 60 litres left in each tank). I would like to know what fuel bug looks like so I can treat it before Hols if I do indeed have it.

If it is a blacky greeny algae colour and looks like deformed tadpoles in their spawn then it is Claudiosporum resinae and will carry on feeding till it turns everything to a jelly like substance.

'The Leopardess' Guernseys Sea Fisheries Protection vessel had this and I double dosed it with Soltron and within 48 hours was running at full speed again. Within a week there was no trace of it left in the bowls filters or anywhere.

For the cost, treat it quick double dose it and then top up with fresh fuel and double dose that aswell to be sure. Continued use will ensure it never comes back again. Becareful with biocides as they rot your tanks and do not remoe the algae.

At the risk of installing your "soap box";

I was looking at the Soltron Bottle that a friend was using and it did not seem clear that Soltron dealt with diesel bug. He was using a biocide aswell.

Could you clarify?

(stand back!!)

Just go to the first chandlers you come to and ask for a bottle of whatever stuff they have for the job and bung it in. Or argue with Depsol about the pros and cons of Daz or Persil. >G>

Where can I get some?

DepSol,

Where can I get hold of Soltron - my local chandlers don't seem to stock it. The website gives the address: SOLTRON/SOLPOWER LTD
7-15 UPPER NEWTOWNARDS ROAD
BELFAST BT4 3HT

Is this the only place? What's the going rate and what quantities is it available in?

Cheers, Jerry

True I have mentioned this before and you are quite right it doesnt but is due to be changed soon I understand. Soltron will only eat up the biocide aswell as all the other contaminants if he is using both. Soltron also kills the bug faster than any other treatment known on the market and is safe for use in all applications.

Ok most people argue about all the claims the product makes but I can guarantee that it does kill the bug and breaks down all the leftover mess so it passes through and is burnt and sent out the exhaust.

Give the empty bottle to H when you are finished so he can melt it down and make another big spoon for stirring ;-) I think te one he has is worn out.

Jerry nearest guy to you is

“Clean It All”
Alston Lane
Churston
Near Brixham
Devon
Tel: 01803 844564

If you stll have a problem getting some send me a PM .

usally buy 500ml or also available in 125ml. In England 500ml is about £31 to £33 but is much cheaper in Channel Islands. 500ml treats 2500 litres of fuel.

Hope this helps.

Works for me.

I'm with Gludy.

I would suggest that some of the claims made by the product are marginal, in fact barely perceptible, but one thing is for certain, it definately kills the bug and stops clogged filters.

add you sarcastic remark about someone elses tag line here.....

In support of solly

I have been a critic of Soltron, but only regarding the claim it boosts mpg or makes good fuel burn better. As regards it's ability to kill the bug, no-one has criticised that and it seems to be the best product for that task. I have not had a bug problem but Dom has killed zillions of them. It sounds like you should get some fast.

There are other suppliers (mail order) that have been mentioned on this BB in last 6 months. Try a search. But they all charge about £32 for a 1/2 litre bottle.

Re: Where can I get some?

Thanks - I'll give them a call. One other thing... I'm currently using one of the biocides, can't remember which one, but it's yellow and stinks! Is it OK to add Soltron to the tank with this in or should I wait till the tank is nearly empty, add the Soltron and fill up?

Cheers,

Jerry
