I’m trying to sort out my failing fuel sender on my Volvo Penta D6 etc. I can’t remove the sender from the tank as the location is under the cockpit and the tank has around 270litres so I am making up a system to check if the sender is working correctly and I can’t determin if low resistance from the sender = empty and high resistance = full as the measured values across the sender are showing 153 Oms. Once I know for sure I can maybe set the calibration. Sorry to be a pain on this but I’m pulling my hair out by the roots now....

It’s most likely European spec. so 3 Ohms empty, 180 Ohms full. So, if you put a piece of wire between the two terminals to give it 0 Ohms, your tank gauge ‘should’ show as empty. You can also carry out the ‘empty tank calibration’ with it like this & then remove the bridging wire, after which if its working ok it all read the correct (ish) level.

Might be different problem but recently repaired one of these, simple soldering job, track had fractured on top of actual sender unit.
Dob of solder restored connectivity to male lucar connector.

Hi thanks for the info. I can’t now get any calibrations on the guage I just get “values rejected” when I try and add empty / full tank calibration. Does this mean I now need the Volvo engineer....problem here on Gozo there isn’t one.
