Driving past a petrol station today (never took much notice before) and observed the fuel prices...Unleaded was 76.9p p/l and Diesel 79.9p p/l, but when you compare that against fuel prices on the rivers unleaded costs 93p p/l and diesel is around 34p p/l, fair enough its red diesel and hence tax free (almost) but why dont they have red petrol on the rivers because surely the government must realize petrol sold on the waterways would (should) be used for pleasure purposes only.
I recall somebody telling me that there is red pertrol (unleaded) about and that it is used for the military (airbases) etc, not sure if my sources are correct but has anybody heard about this?

The reason is that people like me/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif,would be straight round with my 25l jerry cans to top up my car at the nearest "friendly" fuel supply.
Do you really think that the the powers that be would/could trust the population not to abuse the marine petrol exemption.
Living near to channel tunnel,it is not uncommon for some locals to nip across to France after work to smuggle/import for your own personal use(delete as suitable) mountains of booze/smokes.............. and be back for an early tea and buns.

Re: Fuel fiddles

Hmm. Down here in the poor bit of the south east, about thirty five of the seventy or so cars/vans stopped in a road check, turned out to be using red diesel.

You want to see the prices that the boatyards charge the Norfolk Broads hirers for red diesel! Almost road price. Who said there are no longer any pirates? They wonder why their tourist industry is going down the pan. Parking charges, diver for the prop insurance.....it goes on!
