The fuel tanks in my Levi Settimo Velo are constructed out of plywood and grp. I should think they are mid 60's vintage, very similar to the tank construction described for Surfury in Levi's book Dhows and Deltas.

I lifted the inspection covers this afternoon to check the inside of the tanks. They are constructed with 3 baffles and appear to be basically sound. They drain from the bottom aft corner, so could gavity feed.

I will need to raise the cockpit floor to remove them for any further inspection. However, I do not know if the sides of the hull have been used to form one wall of the tank. Is this likely?

What is the modern thinking on fuel (petrol) tank construction? Would they stand up to current survey standards, or meet requirements for insurance purposes?

I will also post this on the Classic Boat Forum.
