We're planning a return trip to the Thames this Easter, hopefully as far as Teddington this year (only came as far as the London Eye last time). We had problems with fuel last year, Gallions Point messed us around and i understand the fuel barges are closed at weekends.

Can anyone please advise on places to get diesel on the tidal Thames ? Will want about 200 litres, so won't want to lug it around in jerry cans.

Barge is pretty much all there is. If you are getting as far as Teddington its probably worth considering the extra half an hour or so to Thames Ditton's fuel berth. May also be worth telephoning the fuel barge to check availability over a holiday period, with a long weekend they might have a different set of hours.

What did Galleon's Point do?

Wave as you whizz past.

We are going to West India on 28th and then hopefully out again after a day or two and then up to Teddington on the 25th or 26th.
Thence back to civilisation on the 30th.. ish or if the 10 shilling note have been carefully saving up runs out, perhaps earlier.
Easy to spot ,all the flotsam and jetsam in the tideway will be moving twice as fast as me and about 10 boats in our convoy. We been divided into three groups 20 knots,8 knots and me
Lots of if and buts but anything to avoid the Windsors economy bash showing how "we are all in this together".:)

The barge does indeed sell at 60/40 and as far as I remember was reasonably priced.

Galleons were able to provide me with about 40l and I believe were in the process of getting proper facilities installed as I was there in june last year so may be worth calling them to ask.

Additionally the Marina at gravesend do sell fuel and will sell to you from outside the lock, but when I tried to buy from them I found that it was difficult to arrange mainly because you can only get there at high water so ended up passing but again may be worth talking to them in advance

Thanks for the replies guys. Checked with the fuel barge and they are closed Friday to Monday.

Current plan is to refuel at Thames Ditton, thanks for the suggestion Andrew.

Wouldn't wee on Gallions Point if it was on fire

Stayed there last Sept, wish we'd have taken the advice and not done so, but it was the only place with a tidal window.

The fuel saga is a long story and it's late, will post a report over the weekend.

Tidal thames sucks in terms of fuel availability.... If you ran out of fuel, in Chiswick, Kew, Putney, and quite close to Teddington there are petrol stations in a short walk from where you can moore the boat.

Fuel on the Tidal Thames.

If you fancy popping up through Teddington Lock to the non tidal section
you will find nice moorings free for 24 hrs.In addition a very nice shopping centre right on the banks of the Thames and Tam Leisure Marine at Thames Ditton Marina just about 500 yards upstream of the free moorings. They do diesel at 86p 60/40 split and a comprehensive chandlery as well as Calor gas.

The finger moorings on left kingston bank just below where the
Turks boats are moored I thought were free moorings. Used them for years and never been charged.I know the management on the Thames is getting more mercenary these days so maybe they are no longer free.

I also thought that the Hampton Court side of the Thames at Kingston just upstream of the bridge past the' residential mess' of boats was also free for 24 hrs.Have they gone too!!!

I believe the majority of the finger morings have been removed now.
I noticed that the finger mooring stages on the Kingston bank had gone when we went downstream at Easter. Looked like you can now moor alongside the wall but didn't actually investigate. If they've dredged that area, which used to be quite shallow with lots of debris, might be an improvement.

I hope there are some rings:-) the pontoon outsied La Tasca does not have anything, which seems a bit daft!

I filled up at Thames Ditton at the end of March and fuel was around £1.16 at 60/40
