Fuel gauges

Starboard engine packs up on passage from Pompey to Brighton 5 miles from Littlehampton. Fuel gauge shows at least 1/3 full both tanks . I assumed filters blocked i think my tanks have got the bug! Limped into Littlehampton and got train home.
Back today to fit filters still no life checked fuel lines all clear . Used tender pump to blow lines through , when blowing air into tank sounds empty ! gauge showing 1/3 still. fuel pontoon closed for night. are gauges unreliable or have i 1/3 tank full of sludge!

Re: Eaten by Solly

Duff tank sender? Praps the only thing Soltron cannot fix! Or maybe you added too much Soltron and it digested the sender unit?

Re: Who are you calling a dipstick?

The problem is probably a sticky float on your fuel gauge sender. Depending on access its easy to fix. What is puzzling is that both sides said roughly the same so your sludge at the bottom of the tank might have some relevance.

Yoy say "fuel gauge shows 1/3 full both tanks".
Are the fuel gauges completely separate, in which case unlikely to be a fault. Or is it a common gauge with a change over switch, in which case could be a faulty gauge.
On the other hand the gauges could be fed from a regulated supply usually about 11 volts, if this is the case and the regulator has packed up and the supply is higher, the gauges will read high.
