I like the idea of having a readout of my rate of fuel useage to find optimum speed trim etc.
My engine is the 3.0l Mercruiser Petrol and the current main instrument is a Garmin 2006C plotter.
Does anyone know if this Garmin is compatible with any of the fuel flow measureing devices please, if so any preferances?

What year is the Mercruiser engine, post 04 most ecm modules will support Smartcraft, this provides a plug in monitor for around £ 100 that will give a whole range of information including litres/ US gallons per hour?

When set up and calibrated with the tank you can get range of the tank as well as whole additional series of engine monitoring functions not usually found like water pressure etc.

I find it very helpful establishing economic cruise speeds with different props.

I had the Navman with a carbed AQ150 (I think) petrol engine.
Wouldn't bother again, don't think it was that accurate and I had to keep re-calibrating it.
Hardly ever switched it on once the novelty had worn off!
I now guess optimum trim etc by spedd, sound RPM and the general "feel" of things.

Lowrance do a couple of gauges that come packaged with a fuel flow sensor, you can source quite easily from the US at good prices (approx £150ish from memory inc shipping etc but haven't checked for a while). Look for LMF-400 or LMF-200 on the Lowrance website.
