Having just bought a 1996 boat (Skibsplast) with a Yanmar Diesel I am looking at ways of improving it. (Yanmah 4LH-HTE 140hp)
1. The first thing that springs to mind is improving the fuel filter as its one of these ancient CAV things which doesn't even have a glass bowl. Any suggestions to replace/upgrade it please.
2. And has anyone any experience of greasing the shaft as there appear to be 2 brass caps which you fill with grease and screw down but I want to see the grease coming out from a flange.
3. Although I had a garage years ago and served my apprenticeship being able to do a service on a Standard 8 or a Ford Anglia or tuning a mini before Mini Coopers came out, modern engines demand modern skills so I thought I would get a price for a service. £790. Ouch. (and they dont even lend you a courtesy boat) Perhaps for ease of working they want to take the engine out. Anyway aparrently within the engine there are 4 "pencil" anodes which should be replaced, the engine has done 390 hours does anyone know where they are and when do they need doing.
4. Lastly my last boat with a Jabsco pump shredded impellers, the water pump on this engine (with a water strainer) appears hard to get to, has anyone any experience of Yanmah impeller changes, please.

Impeller

Is it a 4 lh then the easiest way to do the impeller is to remove the alternator.then remove the the water pump from the timing case.turn the seacock off.

If its a4 jh just remove the 8 mm cover bolts and carefully prise impeller out.
If you need to do the seals you will have to block the engine and remove the engine mount.
