Last year I had a filter problem that was resolved. I fitted a CAV filter after the tank and for good measure fitted an automotive filter (rover I thnk) prior to the lift pump feeding the standard fine filter on a Yanmar GM10.

This weekend (12 months after fitting the CAV) had I had a drop in revs, throttled back and motored bac in on halfrevs. I changed the CAV and as i suspected found it to be dirty - fuel treatment time again.

My question is .... will the CAV removing this crap protect the fine filters further down the line - how fine is the cav? Is it normal practice to change all filters at this point or just the CAV?

thanks for your input.

The CAV will remove the coarser stuff, but the fine filter still manages to collect a significant amount of crud over the year. They're cheap enough. Change it at the same time and you only have to bleed the system once. Without knowing the particle size from your auto filter, it's impossible to judge the effect it'll have until you look at the fine filter anyway.
