I've just changed the fuel filter on my Volvo Penta AQ205a and now I can't get the engine to restart. I've probably done something idiotic, but I don't know what ... Should I have primed the new filter? How long should I normally expect to crank the engine to get the fuel through? Any advice at all?

Oh - and Happy New Year to you all!

hi bozlite you need to bleed the air out of the fuel lines to the carb or injection pump.remove fuel line from carb place in container carefully crank engine till fuel appears this will fill filter and fuel lines on carburretor engines just re cooect fuel line and it should start
on fuel injection you will have to loosen injectors one at a time till fuel appears,if petrol engine it is wise to disconect coil ignition lead whilst bleeding to avoid sparks.hope this helps john.

On an Aq there is no fuel injection system. The efi system has no fuel lines to crack off as they run on a linked rail system.

Fill the filter with fuel and crank. You won't need to crack the fuel line to the carb it does not operate like a diesel.

If its taking time to get fuel to the filter by cranking its possible the fuel pump diaphragm has weakened.
