IIRC my 13HP Kubota does approx 3 litres/hr (3kts at around half revs)

Thats more than my 37hp Kubota uses flat out & 3000 rpm

My Volvo 2030 uses 2l/hr pretty regularly in flat water at six knots, pushing 5 1/2 tons. Oddly enough, the consution doesn't drop much when going slower, which I attribute to the two blade prop being less efficient.

1 pint per horsepower per hour was the old way of calculating fuel.

The two PBO articles on hybrid power for boats include very detailed graphs for fuel consumption vs. bhp generated at a range of revs. And from memory the minimum consumption converted into old units was ca. 21 bhp hours per gallon but that figure was only achieved over a very small range of operating conditions so I stick with my 20 bhp hours per gallon.

I guess a reasonable rule of thumb would for me would be around 2l/hour. My tank capacity is 150 L so gives a tank range of about 375miles (theoretically of course since I wouldnt particularly want to run on near empty)

My Yanmar 3ym20 in a similar size boat uses 1.2-1.4 litres/hr. It has done so since being installed in 2008 and has now got 1385 hrs on the clock.

My VP2003 is thirty one years old. Boat is fin keel of same vintage about 5.7t fully loaded
At 2000- 2400 rpm via saildrive with 2:1 reduction driving 16in 3 blade folding prop I use 2-2.5 litres per hour

I have twin 13.5 betas and over the season it works out about 1l per hour. A bit of fudging as the starboard tank also feeds the central heating, not used a lot in summer but now Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

At least in winter you can take the fuel tax split with a clear conscience.

Our fuel consumption is always about 50% more than the 2 litres/hour everyone else in the marina claims. Admittedly a rather subjective judgement as being a Volvo we have had no working hour meter for years.

We used to have a Gibsea 106 (10 metre) with a Volvo 2003. It would do around 2 litres per hour.

Fuga has a 48HP Yanmar, and that uses around 3 litres per hour.

The latter engine might have only have been using say 30hp of power available
