Fuel Consumption ??

I wonder if anyone can give me some advice on fuel consumption,

I'm looking at buying a Galia530 from Tameside marine, the boat planes well, reaches 30mph with a Mercury 90 four stroke. She weighs in at about 1100kg with two onboard.

What fuel consumption might I expect from this boat, dose anyone have the same or similar rig.

I'm new to boating (this will be my first boat) and I'd like some experianced opinions to check out what the broaker is telling me.

Hummm, Tameside, could say something about them, but I wont cos I'm not allowed. If I did i'd get put in the sin bin for a while

Well the boats seem good value. If its the boat you want then go for it, but I personally would never deal with Thameside again. Ask duncan about his experience with them. He bought a new boat from them a while ago.

Fuel consumption when doing what? (we have a suzuki 115 4-stroke on a slightly larger boat).

Flat out: 7 or 8 galls per hour

4000-4500: 4 or 5 galls per hour

pottering about (5 knots or less) 1 gall per hour or even 1/2.

Ours is fuel injected, so maybe you'll see less mpg at low speeds,similar at high, tho' adjust above for 90 instead of 115.

I didn't know soltron could be added to petrol, thought it was only a diesel addative. Whats the benifit in my petrol lump then?

all those enzymes'll fix anything....whiter whites,more colourful colours-you can even clean yer teeth with it. (my mistake, that's amway stuff)
 
Yeah used for Petrol and Diesel...benefits are

Cleaner fuel
Improved combustion
More Power
More Economy

All depends on how you use your engine as to the results. Geoffs uses it in his Petrol engined boat.

I run a 100HP Suzuki 2-Stroke, which undoubtedly would be more thirsty than your proposed 90HP Merc 4-Stroke. Different make boat but same size.

Cruising at 3800 - 4000 revs with my family of 5 on board (me / wife / 3 teenagers) on a run of 35 miles, I get through a 4 1/2 UK Gals tank in 1 hr.

Stop / start skiing running at 4000 rpm uses 3 galls / hr.

Yours being a 4-Stroke should use less than these figures. Good motors, I believe.

On Tameside I would comment that you get a lot of boat for your money...that's why I went there - probably as yourself.

Regarding your specific question you can/should use manufactures data to work out fuel consumption at full throttle and at tickover, and you can get a good idea of speed from standard tables and or experience.
30mph for 1100kg propelled by a correctly propped 90hp seems pretty reasonable - if you had said what will I get..I would have said the same figure (even if money was on it!)
The relationship between hull shape, engine torque and HP curves, and consumption is more difficult to be precise about but in the area of 15 - 30 mph will run to a pretty normal curve because the drag associated with the resistance hump should be out of the equation. Again the engine manufacturer will have a consumption / rev graph available. Guessing I would reckon on around 3 gph at 15mph and 7 'ish flat out at 30. In the (about) 5 - 15 mph range the figures will be almost entirely dependent on hull shape load and trim factors - just avoid it at all costsa as it looks horrible in mpg terms and makes a lot of nasty wake as well!
 
The following are performance data for an independent test on the DF90. They were based on a 1950lb 19ft aluminum boat (take of another 200lb and you get up to 36 mph!) - and they would appear to confirm my guesstimates above - rembering that these are US gallons and therefore a bit smaller then our imperial ones!
