It's the age old question I'm afraid: anyone got an idea what sort of fuel consumption I can expect from a Volvo penta AQ205A single engine in a Sealine 218? It will be used on the non tidal Thames for 99.9 percent of the time so I would imagine I'll be on tick over?

Reason for asking is we have just had the boat surveyed and been given the green light so it is soon going to be ours.

Thanks in advance for any information you may be able to provide.

Thanks for that Chris, I can now get an idea of how much to charge the crew on days out!

This may be a daft question and one I should have asked before getting to this stage of buying a petrol boat but does it run on unleaded? Hadn't even crossed my mind until I read your post...doh!

Not that it's gonna stop me buying it if it doesn't....

Ring Volvo PENTA at otterspool way in watford. They were a mine of information when I got my 218.
Agree with chris on river consumption, at 20 knots at sea you will do 4-5mpg which is pretty good.
Originally rated at 37knots top speed and Volvo will tell you which set of Duo props you should run on.
Saw the boat on Sunday as we moor in Harleyford (outside chandlery) - looks like a nice one!!....,but you will take those red fender socks off fairly soon as they will get very grubby in the locks!!!
I still miss our 218 as it was the most fun!!!

Hi Ian, yes you will use unleaded all volvos have used unleaded since 1978 i think. Good luck with the new boat the river is looking great at the moment, let us know the name of your boat so we can look out for you.

Many thanks to you both (Apollo/Chris) for the information. The boat is called 'Brigadoon' so if you do see us on the river please make yourself known, a glass of wine would be on offer!

Apollo; in your case that would mean a very short walk round the marina by the sound of it ;-)

Ian, you need to get yourself a forum burgee, and look out for them on the river!!

If you spot ours pop in - see your glass of wine and raise you............

hlb (Haydn) is a poster who mostly frequents the Motorboat forum (Mobochat). If you send him a Private Mail, he will give you details of how to order a burgee. His profile is here.

He's just announced that he's off to the boat shortly, so contact him soon to avoid a delay :)

Looks like the fender socks have already gone.

Wise move, boat is looking good!!

Ha, ha, gone but not very very far. Inside the cabin all washed and clean thanks to my wife. I made the mistake of leaving them on when going through a lock on my first day out and realised why they look good but not practical.

Have had the best time ever over the last two weeks. Many more to come I hope.
