Any suggestions for the best place to buy diesel in Plymouth (approx 1200 litres a time)?
Will also need some help with boat washing, odd jobs etc.

Appreciate the help.

Not sure where you are in Plymouth but I use Richard at ShipShape to keep the boat looking good 07748447531. He is based at Yacht Haven Quay. The boat looks fab under his care, wash downs, polish, anti foul etc tell him I sent you ;-)

Re fuel, I haven't found there to be much difference but on the last couple of occasions have opted for Yacht Haven Marina near Mt Batten.

Hope this helps,
Andrew

I'm in Sutton Harbour - and thanks for the guidance, appreciated.

There's diesel inside Sutton Harbour (right in the middle), at QAB, Mayflower Marina and Yacht Haven. They're all within a few minutes of Sutton so maybe phone around for the best deal although I suspect they're all the same? Can't help with boat cleaning.

Good idea,I had a recollection that Sutton was expensive.

How you finding it down there

Sutton is working out well. The staff are pleasant and helpful. The lock opens fairly promptly on request (like in 5-10 minutes) and is on free flow quite a long time. The harbour is sheltered from the wind, so no current and little wind, which is just as well as we are on Pontoon A, which is at the back of the harbour and a tight wriggle to get to. Facilities are good quality, fairly modern and very clean, so we've found ourselves using them when we didn't at Swanwick. There is also the benefit of Princess being in residence - they're looking at a leak and re-furbing the folding roof as we speak.

The Barbican area has been gently re-developed and there are lots of shops and eateries, mostly mid-market, but none the worse for that. Easy to get good beer, fish & chips or a steak. I can see a lot of parallels between Plymouth and Portsmouth. Portsmouth's harbour area is quite touristy now (like the Barbican) and it has a flash new shopping centre in Gunwharf (Plymouth has the Drake Centre, modern, but more modest). Both city centres are tired, having been built back up in the 50-60's after being bombed to bits in WW2. There are some truly awful public buildings in Plymouth.

Will be interesting to see if we're able to get out and about along the coast, I suspect once out of the Sound the sea state will be a factor as it is open to south westerly winds.

Where are you planning on visiting this year?

We waite ona lift and clean and then will hope to take the boat down to Brest as we have never done s brittany as a trip. Longer term we are thinking more like you to try a new cruising ground as we have done the same for 10 years. Plymouth might be a good option or further South, not sure as yet
