FT on Sunseeker and Fairline today

Well, that's quite a different interpretation of what happened, compared to jfm statement "Brian Peters simply made a bad business judgement in losing FL". Not that I really care so much, but now you made me curious!...
...also because I've heard funny stories about the former FL Italian distributor, but I don't want to talk of something heard through the grapevine.

No it's not different. I'm sure jfm knows more than I do but my understanding is that when the (semi) exclusive distribution agreement was ended or not renewed, Peters was offered the option of remaining a dealer for the territories it already covered as a normal dealer such as the UK and some parts of Spain
Yes it would probably have come as something of a shock to Peters to lose the exclusive distribution agreement. My own company has several exclusive distribution agreements for the UK with various manufacturers. You build up a close relationship with those manufacturers over the years so the expectation is that the relationship will continue and the distribution agreements will be automatically renewed. I'm sure Brian Peters is a proud man and he probably thought that he didn't deserve to be treated by Fairline in this way but in business you have to be pragmatic. I agree with jfm; it was a bad business decision not to take Fairline's offer to remain as a normal dealer. Peters could have continued to make a tidy living doing that. Instead they changed horses to Sealine and Azimut; doubtless there was perhaps a bit of seeking to damage Fairline in that decision but, instead of that, it seems to have contributed to the downfall of the company.
I say again that this is my understanding of what happened and I certainly have no inside knowledge. If anyone knows different, please correct me
