I found your boat this weekend and if you want her back the following ransom must be met.

1) You must buy a forum burgee from Haydn; you must PM hlb with your order.
This must be flown at all times in a prominent position.

2) You must learn the rules of the river :-

Private Motorboats have right of way
You do not use your sail or less there is at least an F5 blowing
At all other times you will use your engine.
No Zig Zagging from one bank to the other
Your drinks cabinet must be kept well stocked and shared with other river users.

3) If you do not agree to any of the above within 48 hours I will let the woodpecker loose

Why were you not sailing today?

Bonden was always a particular favourite of mine. Nice to see you, Cap'n.

The pleasure is all mine, Captain Fruitbat. We wooden ship skippers must stick together. I am getting a squadron up to carry out a blockade of Basque Roads next week. Care to join us?

Definitely - Better Half is proposing a small brass cannon on the foredeck, as he is a great fan of your good self. And we never go out without a bottle of very good Scotch on board, strictly for allies...

Excellent Fruitbat...make all sail to Portsmouth. We leave on the morning ebb. Ask your gunner to re-equip with carronades. And have you got stern chasers?

By the way, where can I get a YBW burgee? Can I fly one in place of my red broad pennant?

Must go now...Maturin is back from one of his little trips ashore and wants us to play duets.

Good night for now

You get your official Boat chat show flag off me. You find the address on Motor boat site or maybe some where down the PBO site. Picture available on Boat One's site. But hurry with cheque and SAE.

Have you sent off Your Stamped. SAE and cheque. Yet.

Um... owe you a cheque and a SAE just at the moment. Promise it soonest.

Had ordered it some time ago, and had made it onto the list you posted of people who had ordered. Was not one of the enthusiasts, however, who ordered about 10 of the things.

Thankee Blueprint and compliments from the Sophies.

The film? Have me doubts about it. There is a real danger of it becoming a Hollywood epic that drifts to far from the fine writings of Mr O'Brian. However, there are bound to be some glorious views of the Rose and plenty of on-board action, but we are bound to find that the battle scenes will be fought between model ships floating around in a bloody great film studio tank.

Filming the good Captain\'s life story

Yes, I'm a bit worried, especially as Russell Crowe is supposed to be playing Jack Aubrey.

Still, contrasting A Beautiful Mind with Gladiator shows him as a very versatile actor so maybe he'll be able to pull it off.

Problems start when the Americans turn it into an all-action adventure and all the subtleties go out of the window. What's the betting that Stephen Maturin gets seriously downgraded in importance? Haven't heard, incidentally, who's to play him. Would be very interested to know.

Once you lose the Aubrey-Maturin relationship then the whole thing is ruined.

When we meet up for blockading duties, Captain, my crew will be detailed to whistle ' Deh vieni, non tardar' so we will recognise each other...

Ha ha Fruitbat

I'll be on shore leave at the White Horse, Neatishead before the end of the month so listen out for some whistled Mozart as me and my coxswain stroll along the lane from the Staithe. Care to join us for some grog (Adnams Broadside, of course) at the earliest opportunity?

regards

Aubrey

Bit of a Woodforde's Wherry woman myself... In tribute to your hero, Captain Aubrey, I'm sure a pint of Nelson's Revenge would go down very sweetly.

After all, 'never mind manoeuvres, go straight at 'em" - a philosophy I find serves very well when in the presence of motor cruisers in a high wind... ;- ))

Re: Maturin

Thanks for this Ken, interesting reading.

Fiennes far too good looking, always pictured Maturin as a bit of an ugly b*****d. Bettany appears to have potential, which sounds insulting and is not meant to be, but you feel he could do the piercing stare - and work with Crowe. Hope they don't f**k around with the chronology and start at book number ten. But, as with any beloved book, there are misgivings.

Still, Harry Potter turned out well... ;-))
