Before
After agonizing about future conservative owners and the like, I threw caution to the wind and went for it.
The bulkheads weren't painted, only lined with 4mm light exterior plywood painted with two pack white.
Those portlights are home made and make a big difference in this hot climate.

I wouldn't have recommended that IMHO, but it looks pretty decent as an end result, so I would have been wrong!

I thought that for Fulmar No1 the "before" picture looked pretty damned good ! an intersting makeover.

I was particulrly interested in what you have done with the steps/ engine cover, as yours like mine (no 162) must originally have had the space wasting engine compartment which is too big (mind you useful for doing the washing up etc )

Regards

Hi Steve

All you have to do is sail your boat down here, keep her in the very nice Faro yard wich is reasonably priced and only a 10mn drive from the airport, and you can spend a few weeks in the sun(it's bloody hot sometimes) working on her.And I'll give you a hand...

The before picture was taken when I already had done quite a lot of work on the interior, although she wasn´t all that bad before, apart from the drooping lining, that is.
I fitted a much smaller engine ,a 20HP Beta ,that Steve Birch very kindly got for me and that liberated so much space I could do away with the original engine box.

Hi Andrew
I should be back from my summer cruise by the end of August and am thinking of keeping the boat at the Vila Real Santo Antonio marina in the Algarve.Send me a PM when you're here.
Cheers

It will have occurred to you that there are thousands of great boats out there just waiting for this kind of makeover to double their lives. Someone must have the skills and business nous to make it a goer. You?

Maybe offered as a 3 tier pack - saloon, forecabin / heads ?

I loved my Fulmar and slaved to keep it looking great. One of the great sailing concepts. Timeless, but time still takes its toll on the cosmetics......

Go for it!

Peter Gibbs.
