Support everything said so far.Harbourmaster at Brightlingsea is brilliant, never turns anyone away.Chippie is good.I have always found the food good at Tollesbury. If you go towards Maldon you could anchor for the night off Osea Island
or go into Lawling creek & pick up a mooring (it is marked by more P & S buoys now) or you can get into Blackwater Marina from about 1930 hrs on Friday & out from 0830 on Sat or in an hour later on Sat at about dusk.ie 2030 hrs.The bakers in Maylandsea does brilliant pasties hot or cold.I have them for breakfast as the shop opens early. If you are unfamiliar with the area the Raysan channel into Burnham may be a bit daunting but the East Coast Coote book explains it well.

Brightlingsea will be busy on Saturday night. I am organising an association meet with 12 boats in harbour on Saturday and I understand there may be 40 from the Haven Ports.

It may be better to leave Brightlingsea to Sunday night! West Mersea is good and you can get a great breakfast at the cafe just along from the WMYC. We love Maldon - as it is neaps you may even stay afloat on the town quay with a shallow draft.

Enjoy!

West Mersea has lots of lovely moorings, a helpful water taxi and great pubs - but probably didn't get mentioned because it is only 2 miles across the Blackwater from where you are. But do go there!

Make sure you get the brand new edition of East Coast Rivers - with a light pink cover, if memory serves. There's also Derek Bowskill's 'The East Coast' - which suffers, rather than benefits, from the author's unique style, but has some good 'gen' amongst the monologue.

Oh, and never mind 'curt' greetings. We have had a wonderful standard of greeting from many yotties up the east coast, despite being stinkies (albeit a 'classic' boat). My crew has a great technique - she waves more and more vigourously, until we get a response!!

Yotties and stinkies seem to get on thereabouts... In six weeks up the coast, we've towed two yots - one (72ft, crewed by nine YMs and an MM) ran aground short tacking down the Orwell, the other with engine failure. I'm thinking about getting an RAC burgee!!

PM me with your phone number - maybe we'll meet!

Nope, sorry, it's NOT purple. That's the last one. The new one is just out, I bought my copy about a week ago, hot off the press.
