from boston to hull & hull to lincoln fantastic fuel economy

went from boston marina to hull marina 97 miles and used £65 of fuel at 28 knots

then from hull marina down the humber up the trent 60 miles £35 of fuel 50 miles at 26 knots and 10miles from torksey lock to burton waters at 4 knots

i concider that great fuel economy worked out about 3-4 miles per gallon

If you'd gone the other way up the Witham it'd have cost you even less. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

My dad annually does Lincoln to Boston with superb economy - pulling himself along in his sculling boat.... 31 miles in 5h 32 to win his class a couple of years back - but its not my idea of fun /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

slight problem with the "Glory Hole" bridge at Lincoln. It would be a good idea for BW to shut the flood gate at Brayford say on a set day in the summer for a couple of hours, open Stamp End lock, drop the level about a foot and lots more could get under "The Glory Hole" If boaters knew they were doing this they could plan to be there on the day.

I see......

You could always open the seacocks and fill the bilges!

More fun the longer route anyway. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

yep! thats what the Egyptians do on the Nile to avoid paying bridge opening fees, then pump out at the other side.

Hi John,

This was also done by a Club member at Snitterby Guillotine Lock when it got stuck (prior to refurbishment).

Long time ago but might have been Don and Wally ?

Can you remember ?

Hi Pete, Cannot remember that, but have E-mailed B.W. for there comments, would make hell of a difference on that bridge if they dropped level by a foot ,as its a curved bridge with about 10 ft headroom in the middle during normal levels.would save a trip down Trent and Humber for going south. Most people would be willing to pay a fee I,m sure.
