The frigoboat air-cooled compressor on my 1988 Jeanneau Sunshine runs for a few minutes, then stops and quietly emits a pitiful high-pitched whine, and the starts running again. It no longer cools the fridge element. This happens equally under shorepower or engine. Any ideas what's wrong with it, and how to fix? We're in Denia, Spain.

could be low voltage even though your on shore power, test at the main input terminals to see if your up at 12 volts, also could be gas has escaped, or even the controller.
Test for the voltage first, if thats ok then see if you can hear the gas pulsing in the plate, i know it doesnt run for long but its worth keeping it going to see. if thats ok then suspect the controller.

Sounds as if you have lost the gas from the system with possible damage caused to the compressor. Most commercial kitchen suppliers have refrigration engineers that could fix it.

We have just replaced our fridge. The old one had leaked gas and whilst the compressor ran it was no longer cooling the fridge. We got told that whilst the gas could be replaced the bigger problem was identifying where and why it had leaked in the first place and resolving this issue - as when refilled the gas would just leak out of the same place.
