friendly rivals are so much better than enemies

Couldn't agree more and having been pointed to it earlier via another forum, found it very well put together. Not really 'competition' as it's free, but perhaps from an advertising perspective? I subscribe to MBM, another UK offering, a US title and now this one - all are different, but the area where the others all offer more than YBW is the smaller and older markets. PBO used to, but more recently seems geared towards the the sail fraternity. I still pick up the odd copy however - perhaps 1 in 4.

PBO used to strapline "Britain's best selling boating magazine power and sail"

They had a number of good mobo articles, often by the ex MBM editor, Jake Kavannah.

They then changed the strapline, and deliberately excluded mobos from their articles, eg marina guide, all marinas above burseldon bridge ignored due to air draft.

I only had a small ad, and it didn't keep them in business. But I've not advertised since.

So agree and I too think there is room for a practical mobo mag. Having said that, even the high end MBY did an article on my old tub and have done quite a few practical reports on Greg Copps sunseeker. All good, if there is more of interest for me to read:)

Subscribed to it earlier today. First edition looks pretty good though my preference is for hard copy but time are a moving!

A also subscribe to PBO, some interesting articles covering maintenance and mods as well as new gear

Do you think they'll have a forum? If they do perhaps they'll have the good sense not to spoil it by subjecting members to big and incredibly irritating boat show ads!

Hard to beat this forum.
And it's hard to beat their mags.
Easy to criticize, but not easy to produce all that high quality material month in month out.
I don't understand PBOs tack change and it irritated me, but it's still a good quality mag.

Agree, I used to like picking up a copy of PBO when at the airport or elsewhere, but nothing about Motor Boats anymore, however I still enjoy reading the maintenance bits even though they are focused on Sailing boats.

Had a quick look at the new boat mag and it looks promising, just hope they can keep up the momentum.

I picked this up last week, and as a major artical[spell check] related to a boat I knew well, started reading. I was dismayed to find that the owners name had been misspelt[spellcheck]. No seriously it was. Couple of days later, picked it up again, name spelt perfectly.
I can only congratulate Neale and Claire on a great read, and if mistakes. ie. Info perhaps on charges for mooring, that may be incorrect, or access times for a lock, can be corrected online after publication, what a really great idea!! An interactive online magazine.. Brilliant job Guys..

Met Neale and Claire at the boat show. Their success will depend on advertisers who in turn will want exposure, so the more members signed up the greater chance of a successful mag.
