Very pleasant 1/2 hour, engine off this evening in the company of two Harbour Porpoises, mother and calf.
They were quite content to snoop around SevernUp, just before sunset on an oily-calm sea 300m from Swansea pierheads.
Previously, we have only ever had an odd glimse.
Tonight, we could clearly hear the puffing sound as each surfaced.
Special moment.

That must have been a sight.

According to the Swansea CC wild life people there are "plenty" of porpoises and dolphins around Gower.

Personally, over the last 20 years, I have seen dolphins off Oxwich once, and what I thought to be two small whale type fishes in Swansea Bay.

Nothing like the north Cornish coast at all.

Up here in the estuary around Cardiff only see occasional seals or porpoises.

Have seen dolphins a few times off worms head and crossing Carmarthen Bay.

I think it was 2005 when their were far more dolphins than usual the term "super pods" was bandied about in the press.

On one 12 hour sail in the Irish Sea I lost count of the dolphin encounters spotted basking sharks and the one and only Sunfish I have ever seen.
