Friendly knowledgeable swindlery most people don\'t think ...

of when they are shopping for bits of boat.

Vitesse Marine at Fareham have been SO helpful to me and really nice relieving me of money, when I sought their advice about installing a holding tank.

They are basically trade, but still will deal with the general sailing public, and stock mainly Vetus equipment, but they do keep other makes as well, and can get almost anything. They are a tiny bit cheaper than some of the other chandleries, but they know what they are talking about, which saves lots of time and wrong purchases.
Ian Frontdesk is extremely knowledgeable about most nautical things, Ian Catalogue knows all the item numbers without having to look them up (my nicknames for them), and Paul is also very helpful indeed.

It was almost a pleasure to end up leaving several hundred pounds with them; but at least I have the right stuff, all matching, to instal a holding tank in our forecabin under the st'rbord bunk.

HWMBO is suffering a severe loss of 60 litres of storage. However, we can sort that by taking off a load of bits we will very likely not need. Don't you guys hoard things??? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

That will mean the very bit you make him take off is exactly what you will need!

Why not make a load more room on board by taking off some of your pairs of shoes? About half ( around twenty pairs ) should do it.

From experience, I can't agree. Those bits of his prized collection of thingamabobs can indeed go out. For there isn't anything on a boat that can't be repaired with the contents of a ladies' handbag.

You can never have too many boxes of tools and spare parts on a boat.

Re: Friendly knowledgeable swindlery most people don\'t think ...

I have a lot of spare parts who come sailing with me....

Re: Friendly knowledgeable swindlery most people don\'t think ...

Totally agree. I came across them when i was after some caulking when i was replacing the teak decks... They were so very helpful. even got the guided tour of the stockroom. they supply stuff for cruise ships and to chandlery. and loads of advice from a x worker of westerly long time ago. this place is the best kept secret in the solent

Re: Friendly knowledgeable swindlery most people don\'t think ...

Seconded.

When we fitted out our old westerly they were very, very good.

Regarding chucking bits off......make a list of everything you haven't used in the past 2 years and get rid of everything that's 'just in case'. Now you've got a new holding tank it'll double as a life raft; mind you it'll make you think twice about 'abandoning ship'.

Get him to clear the boat out ....

think he said that you were an inch and half lower in the water due to all the 'Extras'

The only thing that needs extra weight is a Road Roller!
