has anyone had any experience portable fridge freezers eg waeco /isotherm or euroengel (from force4) swmbo says we need one for next summer to keep me out of the pub!
mind you im not paying for it

Bought a Waeco CF25 last season - marvelous. It will freeze stuff at the bottom easily. 500ml beer tins fit exactly across the wire cage - perfect design. More seriously the power consumption is on average 0.4 a/h - exceptionally low.

[/ QUOTE ] I dont understand what you mean. Amps per hour????? Do you mean the average power consumption is 0.4 amps? That is truly low if so. (Peltier element powered coolers draw about 4 amps)

I have a waeco CF25 too. Its an impressive bit of kit - used as a freezer continously for the last 2 years with no trouble at all.

Its power consumption is about 4 - 5 amps when running, but it only runs for 10% of the time, i.e. 6 mins per hour. So therefore, its average consuption is 0.4amps if your pro rata it.

This depends on what temperature you set it to though. I reckon average power consumption for mine is about 1.5 - 2 amps with the temperature set to one dot off of its coldest setting

And a third contender. I bought the CF18. (Battery consumption minimal, good job, 'cos I sail). It will freeze the milk. Very pleased with it.

If you have the space, go for the larger models. I just don't have the space on a 23 foot yacht.

agree with others re waeco. also sailing today did a trial and found waeco one of the best if a bit expensive.the consumption figures are explained on the waeco site .

As long as the fridge is a compressor type you can't go wrong. Some have better power consumption than others.
You must avoid the peltier type they are hopeless. (If it claims to be suitable for heating as well as cooling by a switch then it is peltier)
The later Engel have a failry low power consumption.
A firend bought a Chinese 12v fridge freezer. Thhey were branded by a local Mo parts company so I don't know a name. It was about half the cost of others and works well although current is 8 amps when running. It is fairly large and has a temp indicator and setting on the side. regards and happy christmas form olewill
