Even in "settled" conditions you can get swell and some afternoon breakers that may make boarding a dinghy hairy, if you are tempted to go ashore for a walk or a picnic. Been there, done that, got the WET tee-shirt :-)....

However, the beach is fabulous, and a prompt exit is dead easy (lots of space) and it is just round the corner from Fowey, so you can spend an afternoon/evening there and retire to an absolutely safe harbour 30' sail away.

So, in the right conditions: highly recommended for a short stop
 
Concur with what Tigger says. I would add that the beach shelves very steeply, you can anchor 30m off and be in 5m of water. The swell effect is surprising, even in flat calm days there is a slightly unnerving push toward the beach. Only on one occasion in the past five years have we anchored there in a completely flat sea. Northerly breeze is obviously the best option.
